| A Word From Me 4: These two stories, “Life is Like A Story” and “Freedom in the Cage”, illustrate the harsh realities and skin-deep concerns of the social activists in our society. . In the “Life Like a Story”, the systematic destruction of humaneness in our society raises some concrete, down-to-earth questions, defying philosophers and social reformers. The story challenges us into thinking the harsh realities of umpteen people who are in dire need if our attention and humaneness in us. It is sad that the callous instinct of some people for gossip can ruin ruthlessly the little lives yet to blossom. In the face of such cruel reality, we have to wonder if death is a blessing after all. The story, "Freedom in the Cage", once again makes a powerful statement about the realities of obtaining freedom. We need to ask ourselves if we have provided proper venues or environment for real enjoyment of that freedom. Otherwise, the fight for freedom in itself, or freedom for the sake of freedom remains a superficial sideshow. As stated earlier, I am posting a critical review of the contribution of Dr. Nayani Krishnakumari to Telugu lierature, studies of folklore and women’s literature.
